Color picker

Does anyone know if there's an addon created or if it's even possible to create a color picker? I would like to show a small "color block/image/rectangle" on my product pages. Something like this: http://www.sisinstyle.com/fin/shop/?gro ... our=FF99CC It's under "Valitse väri".
I think this looks pretty neat and could resolve my problem that some customers don't know which "grey" they have to pick. I sell fashion accessories which usually comes in more then one color grey for example.
I thought it might be possible to replace the additional images, in the variation list, with a color rectangle/block?! Does anyone did this before? Or are there maybe some directions to accomplish this? Or is this something like multiple languages that would require a total rebuild?
Any thoughts are more then welcome
